Kingsland Invincible

Starting with foundation stock of over 30 ewes we purchased from all the major bloodlines in 2008 and 2009 we have used their offspring and nationally recognised rams to develop our flock which now consists of over 80 breeding ewes.

We intend to run a closed flock now that we have the breeding ewes we want but could not resist the purchase this year at the Dalby 25th Anniversary Sale of 3 yearling ewes including Dalby Kate with an exceptional index of 497.

Rams

At the Worcester Premier in 2010 we bought Lowerye Kaiser a ram lamb out of Brettles Jet Set who himsef was out of Rockvilla Golden Promise.
Kaiser
has a Breed Index of 442 putting him in the top 1% of sheep in the country and has been ranked 5th in the Signet National Top Sires for 2011. He was used on many of our ewes last year producing some exceptional lambs. We have retained some of his ewe lambs for our flock. He carries the Myomax Gold Gene (see below)

At the Premier in 2011 we bought Edstaston Leopards Den (11TG00073) jointly with Neil Oughton of the Lowerye Flock. This ram lamb with an EBV index of 500 is the highest index ram ever sold at auction and he has been used extensively by us this year

What is MyoMAX®?

MyoMAX® identifies animals carrying a gene that increases muscling on the leg and rump by at least 5% and decreases carcass fat by at least 7%. Animals carrying 2 copies of the gene will have double the effect.

What is MyoMAX® worth to me?
A study conducted by Aberystwyth University showed that Charollais cross lambs carrying the MyoMAX® gene are better conformed, leaner and heavier and have carcasses worth £1-£3 more than lambs not carrying MyoMAX.
MyoMAX® test offers the potential to increase returns per lamb sold and has a contribution to make to the overall strategy of improving carcass quality without increasing cost of production.

Over their lifetime rams carrying MyoMAX® will produce lambs worth between £320 and £700 more than non-carrier rams with otherwise similar performance figures
